  • Investigate the role of RNA-binding proteins and RNA processing in maintaining cellular homeostasis and how these processes go awry in cancer to establish a fundamental basis for therapeutic inquiry.
  • Apply a combination of biochemistry, molecular biology, and mouse modeling techniques to pursue scientific questions.
  • Perform key experimental procedures to investigate the impact of mutations in PCBP1 that occur in colorectal cancer patients.
  • Design and execute site-directed mutagenesis using nested PCR to introduce mutations into the PCBP1 gene.
  • Previously, I have done maxi-preps, mini-preps, gel purification, gel electrophoresis, redigests, and PCR.
  • Create a Matlab program to speed up Western Blot Quantification by approximately 50%.
  • Utilize Alphafold modeling to predict single-mutation protein stability prior to wet lab testing.

The Gates Scholarship, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is one of the most prestigious and selective scholarship programs for outstanding high school seniors in the United States. Each year 750 outstanding student leaders are recognized from a pool of 51,000+ applicants. I was selected as a Gates Scholar in April 2023, and I will be attending Dartmouth College beginning in September of 2023.
